Alderbank's Queen Victoria Celebrates her Silver Jubilee

14.07.14 - Founding partner, Victoria Barker, celebrates a quarter of a century in physiotherapy this week. We've been celebrating in right royal style!

vicky-graduationVictoria qualified as a physiotherapist from Royal Liverpool Hospital in 1989. She started her career at North Manchester General Hospital and it was here that she met husband Lee.

"I wasn't expecting to fall in love" she says. "I was pretty happy enjoying the 'Manchester scene' of the early 1990's."

However in an 'It's a Knock Out' type inter-physio department competition, Victoria explains there was a 'Tarzan and Jane' moment.

"I was doing my part of a swim relay and was flagging and Lee swam up to me put his arm around me and swam with me to the finish line, how could a girl not be impressed?! I became more aware of this new physio who had just started working with us. I also saw how kind he was with the elderly patients and we soon became an item, which has resulted in 21 years of happy marriage."

As Lee is from Lancaster and Victoria is from Clitheroe, they decided to move further North. Victoria secured a senior physio post at Royal Preston Hospital.

"I was there for 10 years, had a great career and made many friends. My last role was a clinical specialist in Spinal Pain Management."

Victoria and Lee decided to set up in business together from their home - 'Alderbank' - in Grimsargh in 2000. In 2002 they moved premises to their current clinic in the centre of the village.

"Most of our Manchester friends were skeptical about a village clinic, but we have a large catchment area with great motorway access and the clinic has exceeded our expectations by a long way. We feel we are blessed to have a successful business in such a great friendly, semi rural community."

Congratulations from all the team Vicky. Here's to another 25-years!
